Las Vegas Done Right!

Woo-hoo! You’re coming to Vegas! Congratulations on joining 41 million other annual visitors to the entertainment capital of the world! With so many things to see, it can become confusing if you’re constantly trying to figure out what the rules are for each place. To make it easier, this list of things you can do to enhance your Las Vegas experience should make for a great time! Shopping, attractions and more from wild to mild; you’re going to need to be a little bit prepared for what you’re about to experience!

First, and please, try to keep this in mind throughout your trip; everything is NOT as close as it appears.

You’ll wish that someone had stopped you from trying to walk all the way from the MGM Grand to the Bellagio like I did. It may not seem that far when you’re looking at it from one end, but the strip is literally, miles long. Four to be exact. Yet, since the building were built so close together it can easily appear that they’re closer than they really are. Walking between a few buildings can be manageable, but any more than that, and you may start to get sore.

Although it’s easier to flag down a casino waitress to bring you something tasty, if you’re playing games, wait for them to come to you. In order to keep you playing, these large casinos will happy let you drink for free. (Don’t forget to tip your waitress!) You might have to wait a few more minutes for your drink, but you’ll save yourself some hard-earned cash. Also, be careful buying drinks during the evening since sometimes casinos will charge you an extra tax for live entertainment or events being held in the casino. If you plan to go out later in the evening, spend a few dollars on slot machines for a few rounds of drinks and then get going!

If you’re flexible, you can find lots of things about Vegas that will be rewarding for you. For example, if you choose to eat a little earlier or a bit later, you can avoid peak dinner times, long lines and sometimes, extravagant dinner prices! The main dinner times in Las Vegas tend to be between 6-8pm, so if you can have dinner around 5 or later, around 9, you shouldn’t have to worry about the kind of service or experience you’ll be receiving. Be aware of prime time and you’ll have a fine time.

transportation-las-vegasSomething, many people overlook is transportation. How will you get where you’re going? Be prepared to wait for taxi’s and factor the wait time into your plans. If you’re moving around during prime time, you can expect to wait an hour, sometimes longer, for a taxi. You could choose to ride-share. If you’re in line waiting with others, ask around and see who is going the same direction you are, you could easily split a fare and wait a bit less. Other options now include recently acquired ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft. Recently approved for operating within the Clark county city limits, Uber and Lyft can take you anywhere in the city.

Here are some other tips that can make your trip much more enjoyable! It really is the little things that make the biggest difference!

  • Bring extra shoes! Women! Carry flats in your purse. You don’t want to be labeled as one of the girls with ‘strip foot’. That’s when girls walk around bare foot at 3 in the morning because they can no longer sport their heels. Don’t get strip foot!
  • Dress codes are important. Be sure to check what the dress code is before you head to your venue or event. Men, please, no sneakers, and women, keep it classy.
  • Bring your ID EVERYWHERE! Even if you are 63 years old, carry it on you at all times. Aside from making sure you don’t get left out, you want to be easily identifiable should anything happen to you while you’re on your trip, or in case of emergencies.
  • Don’t forget to tip. If you’re going to spend the evening in one venue, or you’re consistently ordering things up to your room, be sure to tip your hosts graciously. A nice tip can go a long way, maybe even helping you score a premier cabana or VIP table.
  • Water. Constantly. The clubs in Las Vegas are open almost 24 hours a day, but you shouldn’t drink alcohol non-stop. Give your body time to recharge, take breaks and be sure to stay hydrated! Always carry a bottle of water and sunscreen with you at all times!

city-VIP-NO-ID-lasvegasSo what are some things you should avoid while you’re visiting? Well, flashing people when you’re drunk is certainly something to avoid if at all possible. You could get asked to leave if it becomes an incident. Also, keep tabs on your things. Read: Never lose track of your ID. What a waste it would be to spend all the time, money and energy getting everything just right, only to be denied entry because your ID is at your hotel. Please, be courteous to others, don’t steal, sneak drinks from someone else’s cabana/table or put your hand in the ice buckets.

While some of these things may be common sense, it’s hard to remember sometimes when you’ve had a bit to drink (or a lot). If you’re cruising around the Las Vegas strip, however, the important thing to remember is to have fun and stay safe!
